Kingfish Rhode Island (KING-RI) is lead by Matt Emmert, Head Swimming Coach at Roger Williams University and Jillian Emmert, Athletics and Auxiliary Services Director at St. Michaels Country Day School.
Kingfish Rhode Island provides all levels of swimming, from learn to swim, to National Qualifiers, as well as Masters & Tria-athletes. We have a diverse staff of Recreational, USA, High School and Collegiate Coaches, who are eager to provide opportunities for swimmers at all levels to train and compete year-round.
Our mission is to promote a safe, healthy, fun, & competitive environment. We believe that positive process produces performance, and with this in mind, no dreams are too big or small for members within our organization.
KFRI envisions using swimming as a pathway to teach skills that foster responsible and resilient individuals, both within and beyond athletics. We strive to demonstrate that anyone can achieve success in our sport by instilling an appreciation for consistency, effort, and resilience. We value making meaningful connections with each member, helping them optimize their full potential in and out of the pool. Our value-driven approach sets us apart from similar clubs and organizations in our region.
Positive Process Produces Performance
We believe wholeheartedly in creating a positive coaching environment for our athletes, parents, and staff. A positive environment breeds self-confidence and ensures each individual is invested in the success of our program. Simply, we believe a positive environment cultivates long-term success.
One of the guiding principles of our philosophy is to be hyper focused on the process, not outcomes. Your attitude, competitiveness, and preparedness on a daily basis will determine your success. Focus on the journey and you will have no regrets with where you end up, but rather extraordinary growth.
Through a positive environment with an emphasis on the process, individuals will nurture a selfless attitude, which will cultivate a successful team environment. Our environment produces a natural ability to make personal sacrifices for the betterment of our team, members, and individuals.
Staying Positive and focusing on the Process will in return Produce Performance. The self-confidence that is established through a positive process is a “soft-skill” that will stick with our athletes throughout the remainder of their lives. They will have a leg up on the competition, as they will have mastered the ability to create a collaborative, positive, and inclusive athletic environment.
