A visionary leader in aquatics and collegiate athletics, Matt Emmert is dedicated to fostering a values-driven culture where athletes thrive both in and beyond the pool. With a deep commitment to emotional intelligence, holistic athlete development, and high-performance coaching, he has transformed programs at every level—developing teams that achieve success while prioritizing personal growth, resilience, and character.
As the Head Swimming Coach, Assistant Athletic Director, & Aquatics Coordinator at Roger Williams University, Matt has led the team from a bottom-tier Division III program to a nine-time conference champion. His leadership, centered on self-awareness, empathy, and open communication, has cultivated a team culture where student-athletes feel valued, connected, and empowered to adapt to an ever-changing professional world. His strategic vision and mentoring approach have resulted in multiple NCAA qualifiers, All-American honorees, and a program known for excellence both in competition and in life.
Beyond collegiate athletics, Matt is the Founder and Director of Kingfish Swimming Rhode Island, a premier USA Swimming club that provides opportunities for swimmers of all levels—from learn-to-swim programs to national competitors. His leadership extends to coaching Masters swimmers, triathletes, and youth athletes, ensuring that every individual is supported in their pursuit of excellence.
A collaborator and strategic planner, Matt actively engages with university leadership, athletic committees, and national swimming organizations. He is deeply invested in fostering leadership, inclusion, and lifelong learning within the athletic community.
Through a career defined by coaching excellence, emotional intelligence, and a commitment to holistic development, Matt continues to inspire swimmers, coaches, and teams to achieve their fullest potential.
Outside of the Pool, Matt enjoys spending time with his wife Jillian, daughters Brynn & Lyla, and their dog Wayne.
