Matt is the Head Swimming & Diving coach at Roger Williams University, as well Performance Director for Kingfish Rhode Island, a USA Swimming member club. His coaching philosophy can be summarized in four words:  Positive Process Produces Performance.


Matt Emmert has served as Head Coach of the Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving programs since 2012, and during his tenure, he has continued to guide the Hawks to new heights under his tutelage. Since his arrival, Emmert and his staff have coached 170 NEISDA champions, 58 ECAC qualifiers, and four NCAA Championship provisional qualifiers

Prior to his position at RWU, he was an assistant coach at the University of Maryland, Texas Christian University, and University of Rhode Island. In addition to his duties with Kingfish and RWU, Coach Emmert is also the founder and director of Ocean State Swim Camp, which sponsors technique, recruiting, and training camps & clinics throughout the region.


Outside of the Pool, Matt enjoys spending time with his wife Jillian, daughters Brynn & Lyla, and dogs Boston & Wayne.

Benjamin Goho

Head Coach Northern Rhode Island

Ben Goho serves as Kingfish Rhode Islands Head Coach of our Northern Rhode Island branch. Ben is from Lincoln Rhode Island and swam for Kingfish, coached under Brian Hann, MacColl YMCA Black Marlins, coached under Dan Cameron, and Lincoln High School, led by Tom Dilorio.


He continued his swimming career and swam under Barrett Roberts at Division III Wheaton College from 2020-2024. In his time at Wheaton, Ben was a top competitor in the NEWMAC conference, acquiring many top 10 placements in breaststroke and sprint freestyle events. Ben also was honored on the Academic All NEWMAC Team for the 2020-2024 seasons. Ben's favorite events are the following: 100 breast, 200 breast, 100 free, 200 free, and the 50 free. He graduated from Wheaton with a B.A. in Neuroscience and Pre-Medical Studies.


Ben started with Kingfish Rhode Island in the summer of 2019, and started as a coach during the summer of 2021. As our Kingfish Coach of our Northern RI Branch here are some highlights and achievements: he has helped coach athletes to the Regional, Silver, Age Group Championships, New England Senior Championships. He has also coached multiple Top 10 Athletes in the New England Swimming LSC as well as numerous top 8 finishers at both the RIIL and MIAA State Championships and has coached RIIL Individual State Champions and Champions in both the RIMA and Narragansett Recreational Leagues.


Outside of his life as a swim coach, Ben works as an EMT in Attleboro Massachusetts, as well as a Medical Assistant in Plastic Surgery at Rhode Island Hospital. In addition to his coaching duties at Kingfish, Ben also works as the assistant coach for Bishop Feehan High School during their season.
